Participating Schools
Schools from Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshire vary fairly widely in their participation of the scheme. An analysis of participation from 2008-2014 was undertaken showing which schools have never participated at all in the scheme, as compared with other schools which willingly participate every year. Active schools which regularly take tutors:
Aberdeenshire
- Secondary – Banchory, Mearns, Portlethen, The Gordon Schools, Turriff and Westhill
- Primary – Daviot, Ellon, Oyne, Pitfour, Portlethen, Rathen, Tough and Udney Green
Aberdeen City
- Secondary – Aberdeen Grammar, Harlaw, Hazelhead, Northfield and Torry
- Primary – Braehead, Broomhill, Ferryhill, Kingsford, Holy Family RC, Kittybrewster, Loirston, St Peter’s and Woodside
Annually around 140 placements are requested with usually 100 of those by primary schools and 40 by secondary schools. Within the city between 15-20 primary schools participate, requesting around 80 tutors, whilst in the shire around 8 primary schools request between 20-30 tutors.
In terms of matching the places available, there are up to 100 student participants; RGU has an allocation of 40 places, likewise the University of Aberdeen and North East Scotland College have an allocation of up to 20.
